You live in the NY/NJ metro area and don't know if you should choose a
New York wedding photographer ? How do you begin the process? Do you start with a yellow page directory and look up New Jersey wedding photographer or New York wedding photographer or do you go straight to the Internet? Can you rely on a friend who thinks she knows every last detail about wedding photography in NJ?
If you feel comfortable with the Internet, then I would say start with Google, or whatever search engine you feel comfortable with. Begin with a search built around where your wedding will take place. For example, you've chosen a gorgeous estate up on the Hudson River and you want someone who's shot at that location, so start with: New York wedding photographer. See what comes up, then narrow it down by geography. Of course you can call your venue and see if they recommend any New York photographers--some places keep a list of their favorites.
Many photographers from New Jersey love to shoot in NY and vice versa so don't limit your search--check out
New Jersey wedding photographer even if your wedding is in New York.
Bottom line--you want the best photographer possible, one who shoots in the style you want, who is a PROFESSIONAL (not weekend shooter with a digital camera) and who helps you both feel comfortable. Remember to ask lots of questions, take notes and always make sure you are comparing apples with apples!
Congratulations!
